Now, I understand that when you're working in the middle of the night and you wake up to the exact opposite screen, dozing off on a laptop can be a little awkward, and even considered an odd situation.

In this case, it can be a little tricky to fix it in place, and it might not seem as easy as one might think, since now not only are you rotating the screen to a completely different angle.

But your cursor also behaves Weird as it is no longer taking input from the original orientation on the touchpad. That's why

Steps Involved in How to Rotate the Screen on a Dell Laptop

In order to rotate the screen back to its original orientation, you can do a few things.

#1. Identify the graphics card driver

While the operating system is the same in almost every Windows-based machine/laptop, the keys that send input and ensure that commands perform their tasks and appear on the screen are quite different. Sometimes it might not even work exactly as expected, which is why identifying your installed graphics driver might come in handy.

Generally speaking, you may have installed 3 kinds of display drivers,

  • Nvidia-based display driver
  • Intel-based display driver
  • AMD-based display driver

#2. Change the rotation of the laptop screen

Once you've determined the type of graphics driver you have, you'll have to press the appropriate key to change the orientation of the screen to rotate it back to normal. However, to cater to my fans, I'm going to list all three, so scroll down and follow whichever works best for you.

For Nvidia driver

To rotate the screen, right-click on the screen and go to the Nvidia control panel,

  • Click 3D Settings and press the drop-down menu.
  • Now in that drop-down menu, click on Display Settings until you find "Rotation Settings"
  • Click Rotation Settings and change the screen orientation as you see fit.

For AMD drivers

Right-click On your windows desktop and go to AMD Catalyst Control Center,

  • Click Desktop Management and open the drop-down menu.
  • Now, find Desktop Properties and click on them.
  • On the right, change the orientation of the screen, however, as you see fit.

For Intel-based drivers

Since the screen has four possible orientations, here are the keys that need to be pressed for the default screen rotation, keep in mind that you must press them in combination for them to work.

#1. The upright position Default position

To rotate the screen vertically, press Ctrl + Alt + Up Arrow on your keyboard simultaneously until you see the screen flash.

#2. 90 degree clockwise position

To rotate the screen 90 degrees clockwise, press Ctrl + Alt + Right Arrow on your keyboard simultaneously until you see the screen flash.

#3. 180 degree inverted position

To rotate the screen 180 degrees clockwise, press Ctrl + Alt + Down Arrow on your keyboard simultaneously until you see the screen flash.

#4. 270 degrees counterclockwise

To rotate the screen 270 degrees clockwise, press Ctrl + Alt + Left Arrow on your keyboard simultaneously until you see the screen flash.

Can I disable screen rotation?

While it might seem like a utility that might come in handy, the screen rotation option is of little use, especially if you're shaking the laptop.

As mentioned above, you can't just place the laptop upside down or turn it upside down and use it.

  • So, to disable it, go to your proprietary graphics drivers software such as Intel, AMD, or Nvidia.
  • Then click Display Settings and Toggle Display Rotation.
  • With it, after turning it off, you can't change the rotation of the screen no matter which key combination you press.

My last words

In short, saying, rotate screen on a Dell laptop is actually pretty easy, and that's because most Dell laptops run on Windows. The easiest way to rotate your laptop screen is through a keyboard shortcut, but you can also flip the display through the display settings menu. We've looked at both methods in the guide above.
